Room 13 Primary 5/6

We are delighted to be back in school and it was wonderful to come back to Ard Road and see our fabulous new school. We were all so excited seeing it and what our classroom was like. On our first day back we had a tour round the whole school and were able to see the infant classes and the new dinner hall and the gym hall and its spongy floor. We love the large window beside our class with the big number 13, it is super!
We have just started our topic and this will be revealed at our open night later on in this term.
Primary 5 did Heartstart learning about choking and bleeding with primary 5’s in Miss Mayne’s class and the primary 6’s will be working with Miss Paterson’s class for their Heartstart.

Stirling Castle

On 18th January we had our trip to Stirling Castle and what a fantastic day we had. It was a dry day although it was very cold in Stirling. When we arrived at the Castle our guide was there to meet us. She gave us a tour around the castle and we saw the kitchen, the Great Hall and the inside the Palace where Mary Queen of Scots and her mother Mary de Guise had stayed. We were all able to dress up in the costumes, this was great fun and we got lots of photos! It was Craig’s birthday on the trip and we all sang Happy Birthday to him when we were having lunch at Stirling Castle.

Primary 6, have had visits from Childline and this was very interesting.

We are looking forward to this term.

Term 2

Term 2 has gone so fast and we have been very busy. Our topic this term is Brazil and we are enjoying this, we still have more research to do. We are working in our groups and are working on our research skills.
We all enjoyed working on our class assembly. Our theme was Anti – Bullying, a very important theme with a special message. We were all Confident Individuals performing this in front of the school and our families.
Our Primary 6’s were also involved in the ceilidh afternoon with the Primary 6’s from room 14. This was a super afternoon and we had a great time with all the Scottish dancing! Some of our parents managed to come along as well and a great time was had by all! We were very lucky as we entered a competition for St Andrews Day with Miss Paterson’s Primary 6’s and we won it! The prize for it was having a piper play at our St Andrews Day ceilidh. This was really exciting and we were all very proud of ourselves for winning the competition.
We have taken part in a couple of poster competitions Road Safety and Anti Racism.
We have had a great week at our Christmas Concert and singing our song
“ Christmas Has Started.” We are looking forward to our end of term reward and watching the pantomime, which is coming into school on Friday - Oh Yes It Is!! Also next week we have our Christmas Parties so again a busy and fun time.
We are getting ready for our move back to Ard Road and we are looking forward to going back there in the New Year!

October Update

We cannot believe how fast term 1 has gone.
We have enjoyed learning about Mary Queen of Scots, her life in France
and her husbands. We also enjoyed learning about the murders of David Rizzio
and Lord Darnley. We worked well in our groups
researching important areas of her life.

We have all been involved in the Global Junior Challenge, we have been
wearing our pedometers and have been recording our scores and marking them up
on the GCC website. It has been great looking at where we have travelled in the
world!
Primary 6 have now finished swimming at Renfrew Victory Baths. This
week was our last therefore we were able to wear our swimming costumes and
pyjamas as we were working on our life saving skills.

This week we have been listening to each other’s solo talks and that
has been interesting and we have learnt loads of information.

Term 1

We have all been busy and are all settling into the new term in our Primary 5/6 class.
In R.M.E. we have been learning about Hindu worship known as Puja and we are enjoying this, learning about the items that are on Hindu shrine.
We are going to be learning about Mary Queen of Scots and will be working in groups researching different and important areas of her life.
We continue to set for maths and language and many of us move to different classes for this.
Primary 6 have been going swimming at Renfrew Victory Baths and this will continue up to before the October week, we love this and it is great fun whilst building on our swimming skills! We go with the Primary 6s from room 14 on a Wednesday morning.
The Primary 5 pupils are learning French this year and we are really enjoying this. The primary 6 pupils will continue learning French. We are looking forward to the rest of the term.

Term 4

Again Primary 5/6 has been having a very busy term!

Swimming

We are all loving swimming it has been great and we have been having fun, as well as working on our swimming skills! Primary 5 have been going swimming on a Wednesday afternoon with the primary 5’s from room 12 and Primary 6 are going swimming on a Tuesday afternoon with the other Primary 6’s.

Cycling

Some Primary 6’s are doing our cycling proficiency test and we are practising this on a Friday afternoon. This is an ongoing assessment and we are all working hard at this so we will be confident and safe when we are riding our bikes.

Travel Plan

Ione and Kaitlin attended the Travel plan awards with Mrs Wieland and Mrs Gray at Paisley Town Hall. The girls enjoyed this and they even managed to get George Bowie’s autograph!! (Radio Clyde D.J.)

Money Week

Last week we had money week and we were using the smart board playing money games and being involved in active money activities. We also had a visit from two ladies from the Royal Bank of Scotland and we had group activities discussing how best to save our money. Many of us are in the Credit Union and we are saving hard.
The hexagons maths group received training about how to be involved in the Credit Union so when the Primary 7s move up to High School then we can be helping with the Credit Union.

Talent Show

This year’s talent show will be approaching soon and therefore we are discussing and deciding who would like to audition for it. We will hold our class auditions in the class and then we will vote for the act we want to represent primary 5/6.

Caribbean is revealed!!

What a busy term we have been having. We have transformed our classroom into the Caribbean and this has been great fun. We have been involved in group work, planning and deciding how we want to change our class. Our open night was a great success and this was on Tuesday 29th March. Limbo dancing, pinning the coconut on the palm tree, feely boxes and fruit tasting were justa few of the activities we had. Primary 3a also came up to visit our Caribbean and we showed them our work and they also enjoyed the activities.

The primary 6’s went to Safe Kids which was held at Linwood Sports Centre. This was very informative and we were told about internet safety and we had to look around a room and locate the different hazards.

This month has also been the Big Pedal, so a few of us have been cycling to school. We have been lucky to have been able to do aerobics a couple of times in the morning before we went up to class. This has been brilliant and got us ready to start the day!

We all enjoyed doing our sponsored walk with the whole school round Robertson Park and it was even better because it was dry.

Term 3

We had a great trip when we visited New Lanark earlier this month. We saw Robert Owen's house and went to the school, we were able to try on their school clothes. We also went on the Annie McLeod ride and we learnt about living in New Lanark and the changes that were made. It was a brilliant day and we all had a grest day.
We are now working in groups and planning how we are going to transform our classroom into our new topic. We have got lots of work to do, but it will be worth it to see the change in the classroom. We are taking photographs as we go along in our new topic and we will put these on here soon.

We have been busy since returning from our Christmas holidays. Our Primary 6s were involved in the Burns Assembly with Miss Hyde's Primary 6 class and the Primary 6s from Miss Breslin's class. We learnt all about Robert Burns and his life and we performed our assembly in front of the whole school and parents. That evening a Burns Ceilidh took place in the dinner hall and we performed our assembly and some girls performed Highland and street dancing. It really was a great night!

We had a visitor from the SSPCA and this was very interesting, he showed us some pictures on the smart board about different animals and he brought in equipment that they would use.

We have started our Secret Topic and we are just at the planning stage of how we are going to transform our classroom. It is going to be really exciting this term and we are getting paint shirts at the ready!!

Christmas

We are really enjoying our song we have been singing for the Christmas concert and we were all wearing our Santa hats!
We have a got a busy and exciting week ahead of us and are especially looking forward to our Christmas Party on Thursday and the pantomine coming to us on Tuesday. Oh yes it is!

Primary 5/6

The primary 6s have now finished their swimming lessons and we all had a great time. One week we had to pretend we were drowning and some other children had to use a stick or a rope to pull us out. The last week was a great success, as we had to wear our pyjamas to practise our life saving skills.

Our joint assembly with St James Primary School on 12th November went well. Our assembly was about Remembrance Day and we all wore poppies. Everybody was given a small speaking part and a poem and a prayer were said. We performed our assembly at both schools and parents were invited. Our class and St James sang a lovely song “ No Wars Will Stop Us Singing.” The charity we chose to send our collection money was The Royal British Legion.

On Friday the 19th November it was a “Come As You Please Day” and were all brought £1. We had a special visitor from Pudsey Bear that morning and Pudsey collected our money.

Our school Christmas Fair was on Saturday 20th November and we all made our Christmas Craft, a glitter candle holder and these were sold at the Fair.

Primary 5 have been doing experiments in Science and this has been great fun. We have been mixing solids and liquids and predicting the results.

We are going to be very busy learning our Christmas song for the Christmas Concert!

Primary 5/6 have settled in to our new classroom and our new school, we are beginning to get used to the stairs!
Topic
Our topic this term is New Lanark and we will be finding out about David Dale and Robert Owen and all the changes that Robert Owen made.
Science
In science the primary 5’s are studying solids, liquids and gases and we will be carrying out a few experiments over the coming weeks! This willl be fun! The primary 6’s are studying the solar system and we will be researching the different planets.
Swimming
On Wednesday the primary 6 children completed their swimming lessons. We loved this and at our final lesson we wore our pyjamas to assist us with our life saving skills.
Assembly
We have also been busy practising for our joint assembly with primary 6a from St James’s Primary School. Our theme this year is about remembrance. We will perform our assembly at Kirklandenuk Primary School on Friday 12th November at 9.45am and we will also perform our assembly again that day at St James Primary School at 1.30pm.

The school Christmas fayre is on the 20th November and we will need to get busy making our Christmas Craft so that we can sell this at the Christmas Fayre. At the beginning of December we will also be thinking about our Christmas song which we will performing at our Christmas Concert.

Primary 5/6

Primary 5-6

We have all settled into school and are working well and getting to know each other in our new class. We have all been enjoying our Glasgow Airport topic and have been learning about famous pilots and the history of Glasgow Airport. We worked in groups and designed our own airport company.

French
This is the first year the primary 5’s have been having French. We have this once a week with Mrs Ronnie, practising with Roller and the Gang and we are all really enjoying this. Primary 6 also have French once a week with Mrs Gray and the P6’s from room 15.

Swimming
The primary 6’s have been involved in swimming this term and we have been going to Renfrew Baths on a Wednesday afternoon. We are all loving this and looking forward to wearing our pyjamas in the swimming pool to help us with our lifesaving skills.

Science
The primary 5’s are learning about the Living Processes and primary 6’s are learning all about the human body.

Term 4

This term as always we have been busy. The primary 6's are still doing their cycling proficiency and are thoroughly enjoying this. We will be sitting our practical and theory tests soon.

We are looking forward to taking part in our auditions for the school talent show and we will then decide as a class which act will represent our class in the show.
In Science the primary 5's have been learning about light and sound and using interactive websites on the smartboard.

We have been working on an Eco Display for our classroom and we have been learning and discussing the impact of Global Footprint. We have our display up in our classroom.

We had a visit from Childline, we were involved in a workshop with them and they will return to visit us on Wednesday 16th June.

Secret Topic Revealed

Primary 5/6 Chocolate factory has now officially opened after many weeks of hard work! We had an extremely busy and exciting term 3! We transformed our class into Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, with the bubble room, nut room, sweet shop and of course the chocolate river! It has been a great topic and we all loved it. We learnt where chocolate comes from and the journey of chocolate, from the seed, to the chocolate we buy in the shops. We also researched Roald Dahl the author of the book and Quentin Blake the illustrator, we completed our own Quentin Blake drawings. We has great fun learning the oompa loompa dances, this was a great laugh. Our open night was Thursday 25th March and it was fabulous to be able to show our families all our hard work and effort. We dressed up as oompa loompas and we performed two oompa dances for our guests it was great fun. We got wonderful comments in our comment book and everybody had a great time.

On Friday 26th March we met our friends from St James, we showed them our classroom and heard all their news. It was great to see them and catch up on their news as well.

We hope you all have a great Easter holiday we are looking forward to it.

Health/ Update

We have all been working very hard and our classroom is looking great and beginning to transform into our secret topic. It is great fun and we are learning lots of information.
Our target for this month physical/active health. We have been very lucky and twice this week we did aerobics at 9am in the playground. This was fabulous and everybody was enjoying themselves, the teachers joined in as well!

We are also doing our water challenge for fourteen days where we are encouraged to drink a bottle of water a day. The healthy tuck shop is selling loads of water!

Paul Harrison is coming out to our class this afternoon and we are going to be doing karate with him, this should be great fun.

We haven't managed to set a date yet to meet our friends with St James primary school but we will meet up before the Easter Term.

The school stops today for the February weekend and we can't believe how fast the time is going but we are looking forward to our weekend break!

Term 3

We are back ready to start term 3. This is going to be a very busy term and we are all really looking forward to it. We are hoping to meet up one afternoon with our friends from St James Primary and catch up with them and hear all their news.

We are also going to be doing a secret topic which is going to be fantastic and we are getting excited about transforming our classroom. We will be working in groups and sharing our thoughts and ideas with our classmates. So painting shirts at the ready!

In P.E. we will be working on gymnastics and learning different skills including cartwheels and handstands.

Christmas Party

At the end of last term we had a joint Christmas party with primary 5 and primary 4. We all had great fun playing games and dancing.

New Lanark Trip

This is Robert Owen's school room, we were able to use the slate to write on. The class was very different to our class today.

The clothes the children wore to school. Robert Owen introduced and ensured children were given an education.

This is the outside of Robert Owen's school, just before we went inside.

This is the village shop. It sold cheeses, meats, eggs and the salt came in a block. The shop also sold materials for clothes to be made. There was a shopkeeper who sat at a desk at the front of his shop. Robert Owen also introduced the village shop to improve the conditions at New Lanark.

Primary 5/6 went on our class trip on Thusrsday 3rd December to New Lanark, this was a fabulous trip and we had a great day.

New Lanark

This term's topic is about New Lanark. We are learning about David Dale and Robert Owen and we are going on our school trip to New Lanark on 3rd December. This will be a great trip and we are looking forward to it.

In P.E we have been learning some Scottish dances, this has been a great success and tremendous fun.

For our Christmas Fayre craft we decorated candle holders with coloured glitter and we then chose a candle to put in the holder. These were very effective and we sold them all.

Term 2

We are now all back from our October break, ready to start term 2. Already we have been very busy! The primary 6's completed their swimming lessons, we had great fun! We all had to wear our pyjamas over our swimming costumes and we worked on life saving skills.

Drama

We were involved in a drama workshop with Jackie , a lady from the Helen O'Grady Drama School. This was fabulous and great fun, we had to improvise and build up the story about a haunted house.

We are still exchanging e mails with the school in France and we look forward to carrying on sharing emails.

Primary 5/6

Term 1

Primary 5/6 have had a great start to the new term. We have been getting to know each as some of us were in different classes last year.

Topic
Our topic this term is France and we are really enjoying this. We have been learning where France is situated on the map and which countries border it. We are also researching some of the famous buildings, rivers, towns and cities. We have also been e mailing a French school and we are finding out about their school life and we have been telling them about ours.

The primary 5 pupils are learning French this year which is new for them, they are really enjoying this. The primary 6 pupils will carry on learning French.

In R.E we are learning interesting information about Notable Christians and we are researching Eric Liddell, William Quarrier and Mary Slessor.

The eight primary 6 pupils have been going swimming on a Wednesday afternoon with the rest of the primary 6 pupils. We are loving this and it is great fun whilst building on our swimming skills!

Anti Sectarian Assembly with St James

We have been very busy over the last few weeks as we have been practising for our joint assembly with St James Primary school on anti sectarianism. We had a fantastic day on Thursday 1st October when PACE came out to visit our class along with primary 5 b from St James. The story was about the rivalry between two football teams and the focus was on anti sectarianism. It was a fabulous day and we practised all morning then we performed our show in the afternoon to two classes from St James and three classes from Kirklandneuk. So with meeting new friends, learning our words and new songs it really is an exciting time for us.
